ORLANDO — A man who was recently shot at an Orlando motel says the event likely saved his life.
Forty-five-year-old Dan D’Amato told the Orlando Sentinel that doctors found a massive tumor in his lung because of the bullet. Now D’Amato says he wants to turn his life around and improve his health.
The shooting happened in November at a Knights Inn. D’Amato told the newspaper he was at the motel to meet two prostitutes for a “24-hour party.”
Just before 4 a.m. a gunman with an AK-47 fired numerous rounds into the motel room. Police don’t know who the gunman was targeting and say the suspect remains at large.

Orlando couple charged in bust of Hillsborough swingers club
An Orlando husband and wife are among four people facing charges after detectives shut down a suspected swingers club in Hillsborough County on Friday, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The sting came after a six-week investigation, officials said, which followed complaints from neighbors that a swingers club was being run out of a home on Brightridge Drive in Seffner.
Detectives said they found that the home had been converted from a residence to a club with all three bedrooms lined wall-to-wall with beds and a stripper pole in living room.
They also found was what authorities described as a “spanking table,” as well as big-screen televisions that were playing pornographic films, the Sheriff’s Office said Saturday.
Investigators say owners Steven Bowers, 56, and wife Cynthia Bowers, 55, were leasing the home and operated the club. Couples got in free, cops say, but singles paid a fee.

The arrests of Chasteen and Gottlieb were “significant” because they were among nine women who answered ads by “detectives posing as men having bachelor parties and wanting prostitutes,” the sheriff’s department said. “These women agreed to have sex for money with multiple partners,” a press release stated.

A Deltona man has been convicted on multiple charges stemming from a cyber-sex sting conducted earlier this year by authorities in St. John’s County.
Alvin Brian Smith Jr. was one of 17 people arrested and charged with soliciting sex with a minor through a parent over the internet in a multi-agency investigation called “Operation Sheepdog.”
Smith was found guilty by a jury in St. John’s County Monday on charges that included using a computer to seduce or solicit a legal guardian or custodian of a child, traveling to meet a minor after use of a computer to solicit a parent or legal guardian of a child and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
Smith will be sentenced on January 10th and faces a maximum of five years in prison on two of the charges and a 15-year term on the other charge.
