Orlando Massage Parlors: Verdicts returned in suspected Russian sex ring operating in US

Officials said six were convicted on various federal charges including conspiracy, traveling in interstate and foreign commerce to promote a prostitution business and using facilities of interstate commerce to promote a prostitution business. The other five were acquitted.
Prosecutors said the women came to America to work as prostitutes. Some defense attorneys in the case, however, argued the prosecution would have been more appropriate as a misdemeanor prostitution case in state court.
The trial began in mid-October and took a significant amount of time as the defendants were tried together, each had their own attorney and several used translators. Prosecutors say the women worked out of massage parlors in Orlando, Tampa, Cincinnati, Boston and Atlanta.
During the trial, jurors saw video taken by investigators during their undercover operations at the so-called massage parlors.

Orlando Escorts: College sports scandals prove leadership is lacking

College sports scandals prove leadership is lacking
Prostitutes, booze and bounties have become irrelevant pastimes in college sports. And free tattoos with a little side cash for college athletes? Well, that’s elementary stuff.
We’ve moved on to far more sinister acts of moral destruction in this “pure” world of amateur athletics.
Raise your hand if you predicted former Miami booster Nevin Shapiro would be the least vile character in the 2011 edition of “when college sports goes bad.”
Some heavy thoughts weighed on my mind after a group of reckless Florida A&M band members hazed a drum major to death two weeks ago in downtown Orlando.
When are we finally going to hit the ground on this ethics free fall? And who, if anyone, is morally qualified to clean up the mess?

The child porn possession case against Dale Chisena Sr., who spent 33 years at Lovell Elementary, is still pending. He resigned from his teaching position.
He was arrested again, early this year, after authorities said he arranged to have sex with someone he thought was a child in Kentucky. He actually had contacted a cybercrimes investigator posing as a child.
Kentucky investigators contacted Florida Department of Law Enforcement officials about a Florida man who was soliciting sex with minors. FDLE said that man turned out to be Dale Chisena Sr.

Orlando Adult Entertainment: The magnate, the minister and the £395k extension

November 28, 1996, began like any other day in the job with the Irish Independent’s afternoon news conference in the editor, Vinnie Doyle’s, office — but it soon became apparent that this day would be far from routine. Our reporter, Sam Smyth, had unearthed information that showed tycoon Ben Dunne had given Transport, Energy and Communications Minister Michael Lowry hundreds of thousands of pounds to restore his luxury Georgian home in Tipperary.
To look at the true genesis of this story, one must go back to 1992 and a $1,200-a-night duplex suite at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress hotel in Orlando, Florida. Mr Dunne had flown to the US state with a group of golfing friends and hold-alls full of cash.
On arriving at the hotel, the then supermarket millionaire went on a massive cocaine binge before ordering a prostitute to come to his suite on the 17th floor. Denise Wojcik arrived at about 1.30am, where she was greeted by her host with a bottle of Dom Perignon champagne and a $400 tip, whereupon the two of them started to snort lines of cocaine.

Orlando Massage Parlors: Orange City Council limits zoning for ‘pill mills’

ORANGE CITY — Four members of the new City Council took their oaths Tuesday night, then took up one of the biggest problems facing Florida residents: the proliferation of illegal prescription drugs.
After a special meeting during which the gavel was transferred from outgoing Mayor Harley Strickland to the man who defeated him in last week’s election, Tom Laputka, the council approved on first reading an ordinance limiting so-called “pill mills” to industrially zoned parcels. The businesses, legal in Florida, advertise themselves as pain clinics, massage parlors, detox centers and urgent-care facilities.
Alison Stetner, the development services director, said prescription-drug abuse is “the No. 1 safety threat to Floridians today,” causing seven deaths every day. Pill mills have been banned from the city on a short-term moratorium that was ending.
